WHAT IS SPIRITUAL DIRECTION?

Spiritual direction is a ministry of listening, discernment and prayer in a confidential setting of encouragement and compassion. A spiritual director listens to the stories of a directee’s life and helps them to reflect and discern the presence and work of God’s spirit. This “soul friend” intentionally sets aside the concerns of his or her own life to listen and attend to the experience of God in the life of the other. Contrary to what the name might suggest, spiritual direction is not mentoring or coaching. There may be times when a director will offer thoughts regarding helpful spiritual practices or resources, but always with open hands and heart and left to the discernment of the directee.

WHO ARE OUR SPIRITUAL DIRECTORS?

PacNWC Spiritual Directors are clergy and lay professionals who have completed a certified training program in spiritual direction or spiritual formation and have been interviewed and confirmed by the PacNWC Spiritual Directors Network Steering Committee.
