Addiction 101: From Understanding to Compassion

Webinar

Wednesday, January 30, noon-1pm

Covenant pastors Alan and Amy Muia worked for many years as chaplains in the county jail with struggling and addicted individuals. For the past seven years, they have served as the founders and directors of New Earth Recovery, a residential recovery program in Mount Vernon, WA, where they oversee three recovery homes for men and women in recovery from drug and alcohol addiction.

In this webinar, the Muias will discuss the dynamics of addiction. Together we’ll tackle questions like:

  • How do addictions and compulsions function in the brain?
  • Why is it so hard to get free, despite our promises and resolve?
  • How do destructive patterns get started?
  • What’s the role of trusting relationships in healing?
  • And how can understanding lead to compassionate helping that doesn’t enable?

This presentation is geared for pastors, chaplains, church staff, lay leaders and church members….anyone who is curious about the addiction cycle in their own life, or the lives of those they love.

Check out the New Earth Recovery website for other upcoming addiction/recovery trainings, including the Genesis Training February 25-28 in Stanwood, WA–ideal for anyone in helping professions.
