2021 Getaway for Women
September 17, 2021 @ 3:00 pm - September 19, 2021 @ 12:00 pm
Psalm 61:3-5 The Message
You’ve always given me breathing room,
a place to get away from it all,
A lifetime pass to your safe-house,
an open invitation as your guest.
You’ve always taken me seriously, God,
made me welcome among those who know and love you.
Why a ‘Getaway for Women’?
We knew it would not be possible to do a ‘Traditional’ Fall Retreat. Too many ifs and maybes with the Pandemic. We didn’t want to plan something, and have to cancel. We all have had way too much of that over the past year and a half. And we knew women needed a time of rest, recovery – ‘a safe place’. So we came up with the following:
- Keep it SIMPLE
- Invite PacNWC women clergy to be our speakers, a different one for each session.
- Follow up questions from each speaker to ponder individually or in groups
- A common thread around Psalm 61:3-5 (The Message)
- Free time, lots of it!
- Creating a ‘safe place to land’.
- Intentional opportunities for support.
Lots of outdoor activities
Hiking, biking (Cascades now has Mountain Bikes!), canoeing, kayaking, archery.
Speakers
Pastor Carmen Bensink Lewis is an ECC minister ordained to Word and Sacrament currently living in Oregon. Carmen co-planted Bridge Covenant Church in Salem, along with her husband, and is currently in the midst of an exciting transition to new ministry opportunities the Lord is calling her to!
Pastor Sarah Hammersborg is an ECC minister ordained to Word and Sacrament. She served as Associate Pastor at First Covenant Church in Portland, OR. She also just currently ended her long tenure at FCC, and is beginning a new season of ministry as a Chaplain.
Pastor Lyndsey Watson recently stepped into the role of Ministry Specialist for Covenant Kids Congo in the ECC! Prior to joining the denominational team, she served as Associate Pastor at Cascade Covenant Church in North Bend, WA.
Food!
The fabulous Cascades food served according to current COVID regulations in Thurston County and the State of Washington. Cascades staff have been in close contact throughout the Pandemic with officials to make sure they are following all protocols.
Quiet!
Lots of time to just sit and take in the beauty of Cascades, to pray and reflect.
Worship
‘keeping it simple’, we will have a song leader, not a worship team. Andrea Drake from Emerald City Bible Fellowship has agreed to serve. Looking forward to her ministry and singing together.
Crafts
Lots of handcraft options. Kits to pick up and take with you. Socially distanced spaces for creating.
Breakouts
Limited number of breakouts centered around support for women. What you have lived through this past season, where you are now. Sharing with others who have similar experiences.
ALC Bags to Support Thai Missions
Help out our Thailand Covenant Missions by supporting ALC and buying our favorite purses and bags. Our sisters in Thailand who live and work at Abundant Life Center – creating these beautiful bags – have been greatly impacted by the Pandemic, and shut down of shipping and events to sell their wares.
Limited Capacity
There will be a limit of 200 women at the ‘Getaway’. This allows for social distancing in lodging, meals and the general sessions. So register early! We will do our best to house groups together, but we will be limiting the number of women in each space.
