2020 Journey to Mosaic – Canceled
November 5, 2020 - November 8, 2020
Update 8/20/2020: Due to concerns over COVID-19, Journey to Mosaic for 2020 has been canceled with no replacement. We look forward to returning in 2021
The Journey to Mosaic brings together Christians from diverse backgrounds for an interactive experience that explores the stories of Asian-Americans, African-Americans, Latinos, Native Hawaiians and Native Americans in the Northwest. This mobile seminar seeks to break down racial and ethnic barriers that exist in the body of Christ, and to create space for conversation with the experience that moves us from knowledge to understanding. We seek to build up a Christian community that embodies the diversity of the kingdom of God as reflected in Revelation 7:9. On this 4-day bus trip, participants will travel to sites of cultural significance and historical and present-day racial injustice, and we will witness a sampling of Christian ministries living out the Kingdom of God with justice. Through films, tours, prayer, and partner and large-group discussion, the Journey to Mosaic will open doors to a powerful journey of spiritual transformation.
Why Look Back?
The mythical “Sankofa” bird flies forward while looking backward. The word in the Akan language of Ghana translates as “reach back and get it” and also refers to the Asante Adinkra symbol represented by a bird with its’ head turned backwards taking an egg off its’ back.
The Covenant Church’s “Sankofa” journey, the inspiration for J2M, seeks to assist disciples of Christ on their move toward a righteous response to the social ills related to racism.
To quote Maya Angelou, “The more you know your history, the more liberated you are.” We are able to move forward together more successfully knowing the truth about our past. Together we can begin to live in an authentic, engaged, informed, and meaningful way in the present.
“After this I looked, and there before me was a great multitude
that no one could count, from every nation, tribe, people and language,
standing before the throne and in front of the Lamb.” Rev. 7:9
