Workshops:

Session 1:

Transforming Communities through active Compassion, Mercy and Justice (Micah 6:8)

“The Journey Toward Racial Righteousness” with Greg Yee

Let’s face it, the topic of race is difficult to talk about and one we often avoid.  The topic is often confusing and overwhelming, but it doesn’t have to be.  It’s all about taking incremental steps.  This workshop is created for those of us who want to take our first step or who want to take further steps.  As we live into our vision “to be a mosaic of churches working interdependently to transform lives and communities”, let’s take this one step together.  Greg is the superintendent of the Pacific Northwest Conference of the Evangelical Covenant Church.

“Toward Wholeness: Health Ministries/Parish Nursing in the Church” with Ted Yuen and Mary Hill

The greatest commandment is to love the Lord our God with all of our heart, soul, mind, and strength. Churches often focus well on spirituality but may be underdeveloped in theology and practice of ministering to the whole person. Come hear the story of how God has led a pastor and parish nurse to help move their church and community towards greater wholeness. Mary Hill, RN, currently serves as the Parish Nurse for McMinnville Covenant Church. Ted serves as co-senior pastor at McMinnville Covenant Church and is also a musician, worship leader, and trained spiritual director.

Intentional evangelism (Matthew 28:18-20)

“Building a Culture of Evangelism” with Russ Blake and Pete Anderson

Hear the story of Crossroads and how this church plant has grown significantly by reaching primarily the unchurched population in the small town of Yelm, WA. It all started by building a culture of outreach and evangelism. In this workshop Pastor Russ and Pastor Pete will share what they have learned throughout this process. Russ is the lead pastor and Pete the associate pastor of youth at Crossroads Community Covenant Church in Yelm, WA.

Life transforming walk with Jesus (John 3:3, 30; Phil. 1:6)

“Intergenerational Faith” with Erik Cave and Sarah Hammersborg

All ages growing in faith together is the dream of family ministry.  This seminar will explore the philosophy and strategies First Covenant Church has followed in helping kids, students and adults learn to walk with Jesus together.  We will share programs we have developed including Discipleship Journey, Adventures in Worship and Exploring God’s Word together. Erik serves as associate pastor of youth and family ministry and Sarah as children’s ministry pastor at First Covenant Church in Portland, OR.

Culture of godly leadership (Hebrews 13:7)

“Leadership as Self-definition and Self-care” with Peter Sung

You know how sometimes you feel tired, discouraged, or unsure about how to move forward and you feel stuck? This workshop is designed to help you see more clearly the larger organizational and emotional systems that you’re connected to so that you can fundamentally change how you feel and function within those systems. There is a better way to be and lead. Let’s talk about how to clarify your call and consecrate your care of self.” Peter is the lead pastor of Evergreen Church in Mercer Island, WA.

Session 2

Transforming Communities through active Compassion, Mercy and Justice (Micah 6:8)

“Love Mercy Do Justice” with Cecilia Williams

Do you wish your church was more engaged with your immediate neighbors? Has your church struggled to discern God’s call for ministry beyond its four walls? Community Ministry and Outreach is critical to local church relevance and growth. Designing, implementing and maintaining a viable sustainable ministry that advances the Kingdom of God requires an intentional and consistent strategy. In this workshop, ECC Love Mercy Do Justice Executive Minister Cecilia Williams will highlight a process for discerning God’s call for local outreach, and explore several flexible models that are useful for guiding churches toward transformational community engagement and ministry. Cecilia currently serves as the Executive Minister for the Love Mercy Do Justice (LMDJ) mission priority of the Evangelical Covenant Church (ECC).

“The Truth about Domestic Violence and the Church” with Barbara Quesenberry

This workshop will raise awareness and place a church on the right path to addressing abuse. Is an interactive, relationally dynamic, Christ-based training designed to help any member of the body to be better equipped to minister to adults, children, and families experiencing pain from abuse of all types. Barbara is the AVA (Advocacy for Victims of Abuse) Regional Coordinator for the PacNWC and a member of Grace Community Church, WA.

Intentional evangelism (Matthew 28:18-20)

Sacrificial and generous living and giving (Romans 12:1-8)

How to Create a Generous Church” with Chuck Wysong

Learn practical steps that will help you develop first-time givers, regular givers, tithers into extravagant givers! Your people will grow spiritually as they learn that stewardship is discipleship. You will also be given an annual matrix for raising funds. This will be worth the seminar time altogether. Beyond that, your church will be healthier and better resourced to pursue God’s vision. Chuck is lead pastor at Life Community Church in Roseville, CA.
