Workshop 2: From Making Disciples to Making Disciple-Makers
Nancy Sugikawa
April 19th at 3:30 PM at Milwaukie Covenant Church
Description: It can be said that the central mission of Christ-followers and the church is to make mature disciples of Jesus Christ. Yet, despite many sermon series, spiritual formation classes, and small group opportunities, there are often only a few church members who can name those they have personally discipled. There are even fewer members who can say they have equipped even one person to disciple someone else. As pastors and ministry leaders, what are we doing wrong? How can we better envision, equip, and empower church members to live out their calling to make disciples who make disciples? In this seminar, we will discuss how to overcome the three biggest obstacles that hinder people from becoming disciple-makers.
Rev. Nancy Sugikawa is a graduate of the University of California at Berkeley and Fuller Theological Seminary in Los Angeles. While working as a mechanical engineer in the aerospace industry, she sensed God’s call to full-time ministry and was ordained in the Evangelical Covenant Church in 2008. Nancy recently completed 19 years serving as an Associate Pastor at Lighthouse Christian Church in Bellevue, WA. Over the years she has overseen the areas of discipleship, leadership development, evangelism as well as global outreach. Nancy has also served in Asian American ministries that mentor young pastors. Nancy grew up in Hawaii and has lived in different parts of the world. In her free time, Nancy and her husband Jon love to hunt for mushrooms, grow Dahlias, and learn new skills from YouTube videos.
